Kirkland Lake
A Geologic Snapshot
by George Nemcsok

This book delves into observed geological and engineering practices during the period 1975 to 1994 in the Kirkland Lake gold camp. Sharing insights into the geologic structure underlying the camp, and commenting on the methods of extraction and rationale behind the methods used, George gives us an insider's view into mining for gold.

George Nemcsok

George Nemcsok grew up in Toronto and spent the last fifty years living in Kirkland Lake. He has worked a total of 43 years in the mining industry and is familiar with most aspects of tracked and trackless mining including open pit (ten pits at Raglan) mining techniques involved in the extraction of both precious and base metal deposits. The Kirkland Lake gold camp was the beginning of his geological career following graduation in 1974 from Queen’s University in Kingston. Employment commenced with Willroy Mines (Macassa Division) progressing from underground miner, surveyor through Chief Geologist, to Area Chief Geologist and ultimately, Exploration Manager for northeastern Ontario for LAC Minerals Ltd. This final position expired with the takeover of LAC Minerals by American Barrick in 1994.

He moved on to work for Falconbridge, Xstrata Nickel and, Glencore at the Raglan nickel-copper mine situated in northern, sub arctic, Quebec for the next 23 years. He quickly progressed from Mine Geologist to Senior Mine Geologist before retiring in 2019.
