Place Names of Temiskaming
by Bruce W. Taylor

BRUCE TAYLOR was born at Kirkland Lake, and grew up in the northern Ontario town of New Liskeard. He is a graduate of the Haileybury School of Mines, and Michigan Technological University. He has had a life-long interest in the history and heritage of the Temiskaming District of northeastern Ontario. Of his book, he writes:

Bruce Taylor

"I have attempted to explain the origin and a little of the history of most of the communities that have ever existed in Temiskaming. Most were significant enough to have warranted a post office, but others were merely "places," perhaps only a grouping of farms or a mining townsite, but recognizable as a place where people lived and worked."

"Interest in the history and heritage of Temiskaming is very much alive today, as evidenced by the interest in the annual local history workshops sponsored by the Temiskaming Abitibi Heritage Association, and by membership in the Temiskaming Genealogy Group (which has three branches, in New Liskeard, Englehart, and Kirkland Lake), and the Francophone equivalent, the Socièté franco-ontarienne d'histoire et de genealogie du Témiscamingue."
